Teej
Teej is a festival celebrated by women, who pray for the well-being and long life of their husbands. It is celebrated in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. On the occasion of Teej, in Rajasthan, a Dandiya dance is organised in which professionals as well as the amateurs are allowed to participate. Dandiya is a group dance in which the dancers wield two colourful, slender batons each. The batons strike one another in a swift, steady rhythm and the dancers' are dressed in bright flowing clothes which swirl and sway along with the music. The graceful movements of the dancers create a picture of harmony in colourful motion. Swings are set up in the courtyards. On Teej, girls wear new clothes and apply henna on their hands and feet. Young unmarried girls fast in the hope of making a good marriage and the married ones do it to preserve their own marriage for years.
