Dhan Teras
Dhan Teras is more a part of the Diwali celebrations rather than a festival by itself. It is celebrated two days before Diwali, and the main feature is that by this time the houses have been cleaned in preparation of Diwali. It is essential to buy a new cooking utensil on Dhan Teras because it is considered an auspicious start to a New Year of prosperity. New dhan (wealth) or gold or silver is bought for good luck. This is known as Lakshmi, after the goddess, and is worshipped.
